The Dorcas Women's Tailoring Training Centre

In February 2009, the management team (4 Burmese Chin women) opened a training course in a small room with 10 sewing machines (all second hand) without having ever managed a project before. They started with 7 women trained per course.

Three years on, they are training 30 women per year, and the Dorcas Centre is a well respected community project.

The management team has a real sense of ownership of the centre and is highly proactive in its running. Through the regular reviews we provide, the women have developed their ability in assessing the results of their training, in defining new objectives, and their creativity in finding new solutions to improve the effectiveness of their work.

Over the six month training, the women trained have developed the self confidence to be able to use their new tailoring skills. With this training, they have a livelihood for life and the confidence in themselves to face the future.
